Yesterday afternoon, while I was cooking in the kitchen, I chatted with a friend of mine from high school on Facebook and she mentioned something about me not posting on here for quite some time. I thought it was weird, because the time interval between the two times I last posted on here was like a few days which would be considered as more often than usual because I used to update my blog once every few months, perhaps?
But anyway, since she mentioned it, I thought that I could share some stuff.
I'll start off with my course mates. They are pretty cool, I'd say. There were nineteen of us in my course at the beginning (Kim, Nicole, Mariam, Deena, Robert, Salim, Jay, Richard, Sally, Maxilla, Joey, Licht, Elly, Roy, Hank, Faris, Christina, Catherine and I) but one of us decided to switch to another course, so my course was left with eighteen people. In the second week or so, we were split into two classes according to our results from an English test we had to take in the first week. Not to sound biased or cocky or anything but I got into the better class. So nowadays, I mainly have classes with Mariam, Deena, Nicole, Maxilla, Sally, Richard, Robert and Joey. We do have some lectures with the other half of my course mates but other than that I seldom see them (unless I randomly bump into them on my way to class or stuff like that).
Life here is cool. I'm glad to say that I'm doing well here. I guess I am actually pretty independent after all?
As you probably know, I have been cooking a lot as I didn't sign up for the meal plan. I don't think I have ever cooked a proper meal before I came, except for preparing bruschetta (which turned out to be pretty good!). Last December, after I finished my major government exam and before I came (I think I had around 2-3 weeks), I was planning to learn some cooking skills from my mum. However, due to my extreme laziness and procrastination (we went down to KL and I had to shop for stuff and pack as well), I did not learn anything about cooking. I came here with close to zero knowledge about cooking. I didn't even exactly know how to prepare instant noodles. The only thing I knew is how to do was dice garlic into really small pieces because when I was young, I used to watch my maid do it and get interested and help her with it.
Anyway, I usually have milk with cereal for breakfast and cook lunch and dinner (if I'm not busy with classes). Sometimes if I get lazy and/or have classes (which means that I only have a one hour lunch break), I'd just have like 2 energy bars or bread with eggs for lunch. Anyhow, I usually have proper dinners where I either cook or eat at the cafe (that's when I have classes till 6.30pm or 5.30pm and I get lazy or a bit tired to cook).
So, basically, the main reason behind this blog post of mine is to share photos of the food I've cooked or eaten so far (I usually take photos of meals I'm proud of having cooked which makes me feel like I'm being such an Asian, sigh). So, here we go...
My very first breakfast here: milk with chocolatey Cheerios.
Lunch: two hard-boiled eggs, a few boiled baby potatoes and a whole cabbage.
Dinner: dry instant noodles with fried chicken pieces and fresh cherry tomatoes.
Dinner: boiled potatoes with fried chicken with herbs.
Dinner: boiled macaroni with fried chicken (again) and fresh cherry tomatoes.
Light lunch: bread with little gem lettuce, mayonnaise, almonds and dried cranberries. So good.
Dinner: instant noodles with chicken and anchovy soup.
(I felt really happy and a bit nostalgic with this particular dish as it reminded me a lot of vacations with my family where my mum would prepare pretty much the same meal for dinner if we ate in.)
Lunch: a whole cabbage and some other food (I think potatoes? I forgot).
Dinner: potato salad (boiled potatoes with onions, hard-boiled eggs and mayonnaise).
Lunch: a hot dog I bought for around £1.50 at Riverside (I was walking around the stores there and it was lunchtime and I saw this small stall outside with people queuing up to buy hot dogs and burgers so I decided to try it out too).
Lunch: Jamie Oliver style scrambled eggs (with herbs) with buttered toast.
P.S. And this was when my obsession with scrambled eggs began. It smells so good! And it's crazy when I think about how I used to dislike scrambled eggs and never eat them back then when I was in Malaysia.
Dinner: Farfalle with fried chicken and onions.
Lunch: scrambled eggs with toast (I didn't put herbs in the scrambled eggs this time).
Lunch: boiled wholewheat Fusilli with baked chicken (with butter, herbs and onions).
Dinner: boiled wholewheat Fusilli with baked chicken with (some slightly burned) wolfberries (and some oil). Reminded me a lot of one of my mum's dishes - steamed chicken with wolfberries sprinkled on top.
That's basically more or less the proper meals I've had here. I usually try to include some meat and vegetables in my meals every time I cook unless I run out of them.
By the way, I'm more than glad to say that I've been reunited with Hobnob's biscuits, mint Kit Kats, After Eight chocolates and Penguins (similar to Kit Kats although I currently love them more than Kit Kats). I love Penguins so much (I eat like at least one every night) I might as well be in a relationship with them. I hope I don't gain too much weight though. Oops.
My loves. ♡ ♡ ♡
Oh, and yesterday when I was on my way back from the launderette, I noticed this pot of flowers. I thought they were fake as I have yet to see any flowers around here. I looked closer and still couldn't decide if they were fake or not so I touched them and they were actually real! Seems like some plants are starting to bloom already! (Some background information on the photo below: I got a similar photo last night but later I realized that the photo was kind of blurry as my hand probably shook and photos taken in the dark get blurry really easily even if your hand shakes just a bit so I went back there like ten minutes ago just to get this photo. Hahahah.)

Let me end this with a photo I took with my camera (oh, how I miss using my camera!) of my nail I painted a few nights ago out of boredom. I suddenly felt really connected to the Yin Yang symbol, so I Googled for Yin Yang nail designs and tried it out myself on my left baby finger (I didn't follow any tutorials or anything because I couldn't be bothered to). It didn't look all that perfect (which is the one captured in the photo below), and needless to say, I ruined it later on while trying to make it look more perfect and ended up removing the nail polish. Talk about perfectionist problems. Sigh.
And I hope you enjoy this (this picture does
not belong to me):-
Until next time!
